REDUCED-IMPACT LOGGING BY ALLOCATING LOG-DECKS USING MULTI-OBJECTIVE EVOLUTIONARY ALGORITHM IN WESTERN AMAZON

ABSTRACT To reduce the damage caused by logging in Amazon rainforest, new metaheuristics have been implemented and tested to ensure sustainability of this economic segment. Therefore, study aimed compare alternatives for road sizing log deck allocation. In a forest management unit, skidding decks was evaluated two different areas. determine skidding/log relation, georeferenced points were generated equally spaced every 50 m. area 1, Integer Linear Programming (ILP) model Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) compared. 2, only MOEA considered. both areas, these models also compared current planning used unit. Solutions then identify best alternative. showed greater efficiency regarding processing time, as well reduction number sizing. The multi-objective evolutionary approach assists decision-making process, due presentation based on Pareto-optimal solutions, making choice more flexible supported.
